Italian Neoclassical Style Long Console, 19th Century
About the Item
Spectacular Italian neoclassical style parcel-gilt beachwood and marble console table, late 19th-early 20th century.
The moulded purple and Rouge marble top is over a neoclassical style frieze fitted with two drawers beautifully carved with parcel-gilt paistries and laurel leaves with egg and dart trim, supported by a beautiful combination of two scrolled back legs with intricately carved floral garlands and two fluted tapered front legs, conjoined by a uniquely shaped parcel gilt X-form stretcher.
This is one of the most uniquely shaped consoles that we've seen. It is beautifully proportioned and the stretcher is a beauty. Most consoles do not have storage compartments in them, however this one consists of two drawers on either side of the front.
The rouge marble top is decorated with a fancy edge consistent with the importance of the console.
