A Modern Console With Lacquered Base and Reverse-Painted Red Glass Top
About the Item
This "space age" console table is a playful and dramatic addition to any entry hall or dining room. The base is made from solid oak legs in a scalloped and arched form and connected to a solid top covered in glass that is underpainted in red. The glass edge is protected by bright solid brass trim. Though this is a contemporary piece, it is inspired by the Socialist furniture experiments of the 1950's and 1960's. At that time, many East Bloc designers tried to integrate "Sputnik" elements into their work. They also borrowed heavily from the Italians.
