About the Item

Pair of Neapolitan Louis IV-era corner wall consoles in lacquered and gilded wood with central mask depicting the head of a jellyfish, central truncated pyramidal leg, and non-coeval antique yellow marble shelf. These elegant, finely carved, lacquered and gilded wooden console tables fully represent the taste that took hold in Naples in the late 18th century. The consoles are triangular, lacquered gold with a marble top. The central foot below is carved with fine decorations inscribed in elegant frames and reserves. Medusa’s head is carved in the middle. In the important Italian palaces, since the 17th century and then throughout the 18th century the consolles were among the most sought-after furnishings, emblem of the wealth of the client, to show off in the large halls of representation. This type of highly decorative furniture is still today of great scenic effect and contributes to the elegance and sophistication of any room that houses it, whether modern or antique. This pair of console tables is particularly bright thanks to the light color of the lacquer and marble , intensified by the preciousness of the gold leaf. The consoles are very beautiful displayed in pairs, but they can also be collated separately in the entrance hall or in the studio, in a living room or in a bedroom.
