About the Item

A rare "Spring Festival" console table by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, 1960s. "This amazing sculpture of bronze and pewter dates back in design to 1368, when Chinese artistry was at its peak. The "Spring Festival" depicts peasants of the city, Pien, preparing for the "Spring Festival" in honor of the marriage of the emperor's child. The design was credited as being the inspiration that evoked the French and English designs in their various periods of furniture." According to a description of a Philip and Kelvin LaVerne table sold at Sotheby's the table is made of brass (acid-etched, patinated, and enameled) and pewter. A "Eternal Forest" low table just sold at Sotherby's for $107,950 in the June 11, 2025 Important Design auction, New York, New York, USA. "Philip and Kelvin LaVerne sculpted this table by hand in bronze and pewter. According to the catalog, their signature immediately places this piece in the realm of museum collector pieces. Furthermore, this piece is a "work of art" and "works of art will fit in any interior." "No effort is spared by Philip LaVerne to create art that endures lastingly ever increasing in value. Slowly his designs recreating the past are interpreting the present emerge from the drawing board. Painstakingly, they are translated to his metals, the bronze deftly inlaid into a pewter base. With infinite patience, the motif is sculpted through both metals until at last a composite is ready to be dipped into the earth. There the entire work, alternately heated and cooled by the ever-changing temperatures of the soil achieves in weeks what once took the passage of centuries; rich bronze beauty glowing with natural hues, embossed by nature's own soft patina at last, Mr. LaVerne hand-finishes each artwork applying, when bolder colors are required, his own enamels. Through all these processes, Mr. LaVerne is assisted by his elder son, Kelvin, who works with him on his creations, bringing the distinct flair of youth, and by his younger son Seymour." "Each piece is unique or one of a limited series, one more facet of its distinctive rarity. Fittingly, on every masterpiece, the artist signature is proudly sculpted; a signature that art collectors and museums throughout the world recognize as one that further enhances the value and negotiability of masterpieces by Philip and Kelvin Laverne." "Art collectors are buying Philip Laverne conversation pieces for not only beauty by investment as well. Jean Rooney, Atlanta Constitution." As seen featured in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Care instructions and label on the bottom of the table. This piece is in very good condition. Dimensions: 26" H x 56" W x 20" D
