A rare cast iron console by the English foundry of Coalbrookdale
The Coalbrookdale Foundry was founded in the early eighteenth century, the pioneering iron works of the Industrial Revolution at Ironbridge, Shropshire in England. The company exhibited at many of the major exhibitions, including London in 1851, 1862, 1871; Paris in 1855; and the 1890 Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society
The rectangular cast iron marbleised top with rounded projecting corners, and intricately cast pierced scrolling legs joined by a an ornate and delicate front stretcher. There is a previous repair to the front stretcher which is not noticeable. The diamond registration stamp to the reverse
The table is in the original distressed paint finish, which we felt deserved to be preserved, but you could always refurbish to a colour or finish of your choice, they look amazing striped back to the base metal and polished
This model is illustrated in the 1875 Coalbrookdale catalogue and was also available in a larger size
