An extraordinary rare 18th century Louis XVI period Parisian giltwood console table, showcasing the refined elegance and neoclassical artistry of this epoque. This large ornate and stately hand-carved piece is an exceptional example of French craftsmanship from the Louis XVI period, with every element expressing classical harmony, balance, and sophistication. The console is carved in solid wood and retains its original gilded finish, now boasting a stunning, time-softened patina that adds both depth and authenticity to the piece. The apron is richly decorated with intricately carved laurel garlands, a classical symbol of victory and prestige, culminating in a central medallion adorned with crossed quivers and torches, echoing the taste for Greco-Roman motifs typical of the neoclassical period. The legs are fluted and tapered, with rosettes at the corners and acanthus carvings descending to toupie feet, all in exceptional condition. The proportions of this piece are generous and imposing, making it ideal as a statement console in a grand hallway, salon, or entryway. Crowning the piece is its original white marble top, elegantly veined and subtly contoured at the edges. The heavy white veined marble top is in excellent condition for its age, and adds a timeless, noble quality to the ensemble. Rarely does one find such an authentic, untouched Louis XVI period giltwood console table of this scale and decorative richness.
