About the Item
An exquisite and most handsome Swedish 19th century Gustavian st. Giltwood, Faux Painted Porphyry, patinated Wood and Iron console, attributed to Jonas Frisk. This most decorative console is raised on Faux Painted Porphyry ball feet below the four spiral turned legs. Each leg is finished with a double tiered ball support below the straight apron. The apron is adorned with wonderful foliate reserves while being flanked by patinated Wood lion heads with Iron rings in their mouths. The Faux Painted Porphyry top is set within a Giltwood border and matches the same Porphyr design on the feet.
Jonas Frisk (1787 - 1849) was a Swedish artist known for his evocative and finely detailed works that reflected the beauty of the Scandinavian landscape and daily life. Active during the 19th century, Frisk’s art often captured the serene simplicity and natural elegance of Sweden’s countryside, showcasing his deep appreciation for nature and local traditions.

A stunning Swedish 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated, giltwood, and white Carrara marble console with its original matching mirror. The console is raised by a concave patinated black base with a wonderful patinated back panel centered by an elegant urn amidst beautiful scrolled foliate movements. Handsome circular fluted giltwood columns at the front and rectangular columns at the back lead upwards to lovely rosettes flanking the straight frieze. The frieze displays charming finely carved intertwining oak leaves with a beautiful central acorn reserve. Above the original fitted white Carrara marble top is the original matching mirror. A gold, antique Swedish Gustavian freestanding console table made of hand crafted gilded, painted Pinewood in the Egyptian style with a crystal red porphyry top, designed and produced most likely by Jonas Frisk in good condition. Jonas Frist was a Swedish artist and designer, born in 1787, in Stockholm, Sweden and passed away in 1849. In 1805, Frist received the rights to design and produce mirrors and console tables by the Kommerskollegium. From 1810 - 1814, his studio was located on the street Storkyrkobrinken and from 1814 - 1824, he moved to the public square Riddarhustorget, in Gamla stan, in Stockholm. Frist's personal history remains lost in history.
