About the Item

An exquisite and most handsome Swedish 19th century Gustavian st. Giltwood, Faux Painted Porphyry, patinated Wood and Iron console, attributed to Jonas Frisk. This most decorative console is raised on Faux Painted Porphyry ball feet below the four spiral turned legs. Each leg is finished with a double tiered ball support below the straight apron. The apron is adorned with wonderful foliate reserves while being flanked by patinated Wood lion heads with Iron rings in their mouths. The Faux Painted Porphyry top is set within a Giltwood border and matches the same Porphyr design on the feet. Jonas Frisk (1787 - 1849) was a Swedish artist known for his evocative and finely detailed works that reflected the beauty of the Scandinavian landscape and daily life. Active during the 19th century, Frisk’s art often captured the serene simplicity and natural elegance of Sweden’s countryside, showcasing his deep appreciation for nature and local traditions.
