Swedish 19th Century Neo-Classical St. Giltwood and Carrara Marble Console
About the Item
A stunning Swedish 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated, giltwood, and white Carrara marble console with its original matching mirror. The console is raised by a concave patinated black base with a wonderful patinated back panel centered by an elegant urn amidst beautiful scrolled foliate movements. Handsome circular fluted giltwood columns at the front and rectangular columns at the back lead upwards to lovely rosettes flanking the straight frieze. The frieze displays charming finely carved intertwining oak leaves with a beautiful central acorn reserve. Above the original fitted white Carrara marble top is the original matching mirror. The striking mirror also retains its original mirror plate with pierced foliate and arrow designs flanked by exceptional fluted columns with beautiful tied lattice designs at the base and impressive ionic capitals above with star reserves. The arch displays a wonderful faux painted marble patinated background with Rinceau shaped scrolled foliate giltwood movements, charming egg and dart bands, and decorative carved block rosettes to the underside which are visible in the reflection of the mirror from below. Perched above is the magnificent and richly carved eagle with open wings amidst impressive lighting bolts. The eagle symbolizes Zeus, the god of the sky, thunder, and the protector of humanity.
