About the Item

This fine pair of consoles are made in the Tuscan manner and come from Italy. Crafted in the late 18th century from walnut that has by now attained a great color and surface patina over time. The tops are made from a single board of thick heavy walnut that has been sliced in half and bookmatched creating a distinctive pattern the runs across the tops of both pieces in an andorsed fashion. Of note is a patch in a pair shape that appears on both tops in a reversed pattern due to a large knot in the wood exposed with cutting(see image 10.) The tables have had some restoration to a leg on each table and some underpinning has been done to stabilize the tops as they have shrunk and cracked  This would be a natural outcome for so large a single piece of wood and occurs over a long period of time. The legs are attached to the table with a grove joint much like a dovetail and the legs are held together with pegs. The tables have an overall worming pattern also to be expected in furniture of this kind and age. Both tables are in very good shape stabile and retain an incredibly rich patina and color. The pair of tables come from the estate of Joseph Famularo of Pawling NY and formed a part of the decorative details in his home Terra North.
