18th Century Spanish Trestle Style Writing Table, Turned Legs, Wrought Iron
About the Item
The tabletop of this 18th century Spanish table is one single wide plank, which over the years has warped slightly, adding an attractive twist to the surface and creating a piece of furniture with unique character. The deeply-coved spool turned leg sections, or trestles, are joined to the tabletop with sliding dovetail joints and fastened in place with eye-bolts and wrought iron stretchers. This functional design, popular in Spanish furniture of this time period, allowed for the table to be disassembled for ease of transport. The leg sections are assembled with an “atarugado” technique using only wooden dowels, with no metal screws or nails. The table is structurally sound and quite sturdy.

19th Century Spanish Arab Style Copper Two-Handled Jug with Wrought Iron Stand

Copper containers of varying shapes and sizes have been used in Spanish homes and kitchens for many centuries. Copper and its alloys were particularly popular metals for storing and preparing foodstuffs, not only because they were they durable, but because these metals exhibited natural antibacterial properties. This particular jug, most likely made for the storage and serving of liquids such as water or milk, exhibits strong Hispano-Moresque influences. The baluster shape, symmetrical wing-like handles, and fitted, domed lid all reference Spanish Arab...
