19th Century French Slant Front Painted Desk with Drop Front

About the Item

Lovely painted drop leaf or slant front desk made more charming with painted blue interior. Overpainting on the exterior in black. Louis XV style with Regence leanings, desk was hand made in early 19th C. French in oak with mortice and tenon and pegged joints. Exhibits a single dovetailed drawer reminiscent of early French cabinet makers in the style of Louis XV transitioning to Louis XVI style. The hardware is in brass and the graceful feet end in brass jabots. The is a "secret" compartment in the center, 6 small drawers and delicate scalloped shelves. Original leather writing surface. The piece also has two small drawers over one long drawer below the desk surface. 33" deep overall when drop front open. 28" height clearance under writing surface.
