19th Century Swedish Gustavian Painted Settee With Trundle
About the Item
This is a beautiful Swedish Gustavian settee with a pull out trundle. The settee was designed to provide stylish seating during the day and extra sleeping area at night. The mattress used for the trundle would have been fitted with duck feathers and down to complete the comfort of the trundle bed. The frame is subtly carved in a delicate egg-and-dart design topped with an original carved centerpiece featuring a ribboned bow and wheat fan reminiscent of the French Louis XVI influence on the Gustavian style.
The settee is handmade, joints are mortise and tenon, pegged and boards show evidence of hand planing.
