19th Century Mahogany French Louis XVI Style Bureau Plat with Ormolu Cast Mounts

About the Item

A superb French Louis XVI style Bureau plat. This exceptional French decorative bureau plat is made of a high-quality solid mahogany construction. It has three drawers to the front and three fake ones to the back. This writing table is completely free standing and looks as good from any position. It is decoratively veneered in panels and bandings of tulipwood with Kingswood separated with fine stringings of ebony and boxwood. The piece is further enhanced with very finely cast ormolu mounts in panels and applied mouldings all with original gilding which is in superb condition. The mounts are numbered and signed with the initials A,M and the piece has a stamped signature on the bottom edge of the back E. Dumontheil. The top is inlaid with a finely tooled original red faded leather and is in excellent condition with age related patination. circa 1880. Dimensions: W 160 cm (63") x D 67 cm (26.4") x H 77 cm (30.3")
