Desk by Robert Charroy for Mobilor, Cité Universitaire Jean Zay d'Antony, Oak

About the Item

Modernist desk by French designer Robert Charroy produced by Mobilor in the mid-1950s (1955-1956). This series of furniture was chosen to equip the Jean Zay university residence in the town of Antony. This residence was equipped with furniture designed by designers such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Marcel Gascoin... This desk in oak and laminate top is characterized by its rounded and harmonious lines. The oak is of good quality and has a pleasant grain. The suspended box opens with 2 drawers. The top and the box have subtle curves. The drawers are bevelled and the edges softened. The space between the top and the box offers an interesting storage space. In addition, the shape of the base, in black tube, further supports the eventful look of this desk. Black tube whose diameter is greater than the tubes used frequently used at that time by Pierre Guariche, Pierre Paulin, Joseph André Motte, Alain Richard etc... The desk is reminiscent of the Bauhaus style. There are visible restorations on the exterior side.
