About the Item

Early 19th Century Sheraton Satinwood Writing Table with Pull-Out Slide and Screen A fine quality George III satinwood writing table in the Sheraton style, English, circa 1810. This elegant piece is veneered in richly figured satinwood with contrasting mahogany crossbanding and ebony stringing throughout. The rectangular top conceals a pull-up silk screen at the rear, providing privacy when the table is in use — a refined and rare feature of period writing furniture. The frieze houses a single long drawer with ebony line inlay and a diamond-shaped escutcheon. Internally, the drawer is fitted with original compartments including a sliding pen tray and ink well recess. To the side, a concealed pull-out slide with inset green baize provides an auxiliary writing surface. The reverse and sides are fully finished with dummy drawer fronts, allowing the table to be positioned freely in a room. Raised on square tapering legs, similarly strung with ebony, and terminating in brass caps and original castors. The table is of exceptional quality and design, retaining its period fittings and surface, and would make a superb centrepiece for a library, study, or drawing room. Dimensions: Height: 76 cm Width: 55 cm Depth: 49.5 cm Condition: Very good antique condition with minor wear consistent with age. Recently polished. Original fittings retained. Provenance: Removed from a stately Elizabethan house in Worcestershire.
