About the Item

We have been bench making bespoke British furniture for the past sixty years by the same proprietary cabinetmaking family in the south of England. They produce some of the most fantastic, traditional designs in desks, writing tables, corner cupboards, breakfronts, etc. In particular, this amazing Pedestal Partner's Desk is made nearly identical to one made in the late 18th century in the UK. The top of the desk merely sits (and locks into) the two pedestals so it can be easily transported from one place to another with ease (versus a fixed top to its pedestals which are a nightmare getting into tight spaces, up stairs or around a corner.) These desks are made from the finest, most highly figured timber which is reclaimed many times from antique pieces of furniture. The drawer linings are also made from old timber and dove-tailed. Over the years, we have incorporated different aspects with our desks to accommodate the modern needs such as a center drop-down drawer to house a keyboard; a lower right hand file drawer, useful drawers across the front while the back has three drawers across the top and "faux drawer" cupboards left and right with a removable shelf for additional storage (or computer elements.) Very few desks can compare with the quality of our bench made British pieces, especially at the reasonable price in which they are sold. They are currently available in a 5' x 3' size, the 5.5' x 3' size with the handsome oxblood/burgundy hand tooled and gilded leather writing surface and available in burr elm and figured mahogany currently. We are only able to get one of each size and in each type of wood between every buying trip (approx. every six months) and we also stock matching double and quadruple file cupboards to match their respective desks. As the timber used is reclaimed from old, there are subtle "dings" which are age-appropriate based on the age of the timber used. The leather also being a natural hide can have minor "imperfections" which are perfectly normal.
