Fabulous Antique English Flame Mahog. Chippendale Style Large Desk w/leather

About the Item

This is an extraordinary Old/Antique English highly figured flame or crotch mahogany Chippendale Style Very Large Desk. It may be used as a partner's desk, but the back side is finished and has faux (non-working) drawers. Its size still would allow for its use as a partner's desk or at least work well as a desk one might pull a client's chair up to opposite side. The desk appears to have old or original olive green tooled and gilt leather which is in very good, age-appropriate condition, but for a couple of "scars" and "bruises" (as illustrated) but NO tears or rips to the leather. The desk is hand-dovetailed (as illustrated) and there appears to be an original contact paper "lining" to each drawer. The desk stands upon exceptionally hand carved cabriole legs with intricately carved acanthus leaf motifs at the knees and terminating in ball and claw feet. This is a rare and impressive desk whose sheer size makes it very useful for someone who prefers a large work surface. It is is superb, age-appropriate condition. Overall dimensions have been measured between the knees of the cabriole legs. There is a 24" kneehole clearance as well.
