About the Item

An impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany and Ormolu Bureau Plat desk, stamped by Francois Linke. This stunning single drawer desk is raised by four tapered round Mahogany legs with spiral fluted designed and supported on Ormolu ball feet with acanthus leaf sabots. The top cap is decorated with scrolling Ormolu acanthus leaves. The mottled straight front apron displays a slender rectangular drawer which extends the full length of the desk and is beautifully decorated with a recessed panel of Rinceau Ormolu designs. This wonderful drawer is flanked on either side with pierced foliate decorations on a rounded corner above each leg. The two side aprons are decorated similarly to the front drawer with Rinceau Ormolu designs. The rectangular top with its protruding rounded corners contains a leather gold tooled top with foliate edged bands and central reserve while being fitted within a reeded Ormolu outer band.
