French 19th century Mahogany, Ormolu and marble desk, attr. F. Linke

About the Item

A stunning and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period Mahogany, Ormolu, and Rosalia marble center table/desk, attributed to François Linke. The desk is raised by elegant square tapered legs with beautiful fitted foliate Ormolu sabots, richly chased berried laurel branches, and musical instruments tied with a ribbon. Fine twisted beaded fillets at each corner lead up to mottled foliate top caps. Above each leg are striking rosettes flanking the straight apron. The front apron is decorated with two mottled Ormolu edged panels with swaging floral garlands within flanking one central drawer with a solid Ormolu plaque of playful winged cherubs. Both sides are designed in a similar fashion with their Ormolu edged panel. Each side panel has a pierced mount of a bust with a floral head piece and flanked by two rams decorated with scrolling foliate designs. The fitted Rosalia Marble top is secured by a mottled Ormolu band. François Linke (1855-1946) Renowned 19th Century Parisian Ébéniste. Linke created historical interpretations of Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He displayed at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 where he received a gold medal.
