Jacques Adnet writing desk made in France 1950

About the Item

Beautiful avant garde desk designed by Jacques Adnet and manufactured in his own atelier in France in the 1950s. The frame is made from solid brass and it's all wrapped in soft black leather, giving it a classy and timeless appearance. The warm brass top shows a gorgeous patina since it's unfinished. Two drawers which are underneath the top have an ingenious system, you can rotate them fully out using the stylish brass ring handles. It's like a hidden treasure right under the tabletop. A brass horizontal bar is holding the feet together, adding both elegance and strength. The contrast between the soft leather and the warm brass is really something special. This desk is a visual delight thanks to its blend of materials that creates a unique combination. Jacques Adnet (1900-1984) was a French modernist designer, architect and interior designer. He was known for his furniture designs in leather. During the 1950s, he created a distinctive and modern style of furniture and concentrated on the numerous commissions he received, such as the decoration of the private apartments of the President at the Elysée Palace or the meeting room of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. From 1959 until 1970 he was the director of École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. He left a lasting legacy in his influence of post war French modernism and died in 1984.
