About the Item

Mid-Century Neogothic Leather Top Desk by Jansen & Sons of Amsterdam is a splendid result of high-grade materials and expert craftsmanship producing heirloom-quality furnishings that can be enjoyed for generations! The tailored lines of this design show just a hint of the Gothic influence evident in the castellated arches of the doors and front panels, each flanked by a brace of half-columns topped with capitals carved with inverted fleurs de lys. The drawers above the "business" side of the desk continue the subtle design flavor with an elegant molding surrounding the drawer face which is centered with a highly stylized keyguard with ring pull. Triple recessed panels appear on the outside and inside of the casework, with hinges mounted outboard so that the doors swing wide for easy access to the cabinet with shelf on the left, and concealed set of three drawers on the right, each fitted with brass bale pulls. A generously sized slightly arched kneehole with 26.5" clearance provides ample room, and the entire affair is mounted atop eight teardrop shaped bun feet. For a wonderful finishing touch, the original hand-tooled leather top remains in very serviceable condition, ready to soldier on for decades with only a modicum of care! Circa mid-1900s Measures 29.5H x 59W x 37D; knee clearance 26.5H
