Gunni Omann has established a remarkable reputation for crafting a variety of captivating credenzas, desks, and other furnishings during the postwar era. Among his admirers was the legendary designer and woodworker Hans Wegner. As the lead designer at his father's company, Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S, Gunni is well-known among fans of Scandinavian modernism for iconic creations like the Model 75 executive desk from 1958 and the stunning Model 18 sideboard from 1960. A Legacy of Craftsmanship: Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S Founded in 1933 by Andreas Omann in Ølholm, Denmark, this family-owned business specialized in manufacturing and exporting teak, oak, and rosewood furniture worldwide from the 1950s to the 1970s. Next to Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S, Andreas's father ran Ølholm Møbelfabrik, which was later overseen by Andreas's brother, Sigfred Omann, collaborating with innovative modernist designers like Arne Vodder. In 1979, Gunni Omann, along with his younger brother Bjarne, took over the reins of Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S. By then, Ølholm Møbelfabrik and Omann Jun Møbelfabrik had merged into a single cohesive entity. Gunni continued to design furniture until 1989 when health issues led him to sell his shares in the company. The business has remained within the family, with Ulrich Omann taking the lead in 2005, focusing on office furniture. Notably, in 2016, Omann Jun Møbelfabrik began reproducing many of Gunni's vintage designs for a modern audience, including the popular Model 18 case piece. In addition to the family business, Gunni Omann also worked with Axel Christiansen Odder/ACO Møbler. Regardless of the client, every piece designed by Omann emphasizes the natural beauty of the wood grains, reflecting his commitment to craftsmanship and aesthetics.
