We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning hand-carved early Victorian circa 1840 Davenport desk with green leather writing surface A very good looking well made and decorative piece of art furniture, this desk in a world of really quite simple Davenports is in a league of its own, the carving is very much in the European taste and from the Jacobean era The desk boasts a green leather writing surface on top of a hinged storage space which comes with the original key, a hidden side drawer which is also hinged, you really can’t see it unless you know its there, under you find a cupboard door which houses four large drawers with campaign handles so the door closes nicely and flush, again this door has the original key The best antiques are those which continue to serve a purpose, this little piece does that in spades, the size is fantastic for compact modern living, it can be used as a study desk to house paperwork and or a laptop, it truly is a great piece of furniture and looks glorious from every angle We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, it is around 180 years old so will have a genuine honest patina to match Dimensions: Height 90.5cm Width 63cm Depth 63cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. CONDITION Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
