Travel Lap Desk Walnut 19th C. on Stand as Side Table Decorative Gift Antique LA . Exquisite English lap traveling desk portable. Countryside writing bureau in good condition considering the usage of the period in quality warm walnut wood.
Rising on a later brass stand when not in use, fitted with Secret compartment and drawers and interior room for storage of papers and documents and a lock original hardware and the key, cubbies and slots when moved up it opens the secret compartment Solidly constructed beautiful hinges and elegant proportion reflecting the quality craftsmanship with locks to hold the leaf in place. Original leather with worn spots with Gold motif all around.
Brass fitting covering the edges and adding a touch of Elegance . It could be used in a Bedroom as a side table, in a library giving you the freedom to move around with your portable desk, a living room with some beautiful garniture such as bronze sculpture and books on top or a candle holders. you can take it with you when you travel in style. The brass stand makes it versatile to go in a modern design or old world charm .
I have seen it used in the Gilded Age by Denée Benton playing the writer Peggy Scott , It could be used as a night table by the bedside, or simply by a window .
