About the Item

This is a stunning large vintage Georgian style partner’s desk, masterfully crafted in flame mahogany, dating from the second half of the 20th century. The desk top has a beautiful three part green gilt tooled leather writing surface and it is finished on all sides. This grand desk has a very solid construction with decorative panelled sides and elegant brass drop handles. On one side there are three drawers in the frieze, the right hand pedestal has a further drawer and a double depth filing drawer, the other pedestal has three further drawers, and each pedestal has a useful pull out slide that is fitted with an inset leather to match the top. The other side has three drawers in the frieze with a cupboard fitted with a shelf in each pedestal. Partners desks were made with drawers on one side and drawers and cupboards on the other, making it possible for two people to work at the same time, hence the term "partners desk". There is no mistaking its superb quality and elaborate design, which is certain to make it a talking point in your home and add a touch of luxury to your study room. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
