Introducing a rare, expansive dining set with six stunning dining chairs designed by the prolific Poul Volther for Frem Røjle with accompanying Danish-made double-butterfly leaf table. Arguably one of Volther's most complex and visually captivating designs, this dining set is unlike any we've ever come across. Featuring intricate joinery, an entirely solid teak construction with a typical Volther trademark of two-toned, light and dark wood scheme as well as new upholstery redone in a rich hazel brown vinyl (similar to the original) this set is as comfortable as it is aesthetically breathtaking and is the perfect match for this extraordinary dining table. Equal parts beauty and functionality the accompanying extension dining table is in 100% original, vintage condition and aged to perfection! Constructed from a mix solid and matchbook-veneered Burmese teak with exceptional old-growth woodgrains this dining table is unlike any other we've encountered from Denmark. Featuring a cleverly designed stow-in-table double butterfly leaf design this exquisite table extends effortlessly to a maximum length of 101 inches easily accommodating up to ten guests or six when not extended. Poul M. Volther was a Danish furniture designer who is remembered above all for his iconic Corona Chair. He trained as a cabinet maker before going on to study design at the Copenhagen Arts & Crafts School. This was a great grounding for a young Volther in both the practical side and the design side which many designers lack. Volther joined FDB Mobler as a designer under Borge Mogensen in 1949 and took over from him as head designer in 1959. Apart from his work for FDB Volther would go on to teach at Denmark's Design School, where he encouraged hundreds of students to aim for high quality craftsmanship. A believer in Functionalism, he avoided short-lived aesthetic trends, concentrating on the simple crafting of quality materials. He would go on to design for master cabinet maker K Thomsen and also for Frem Røjle, a large successful company which also employed the likes of Hans Olsen. Built far wider than most Danish Modern dining chairs from the era, this artfully crafted set of dining chairs is ideal for those of larger builds but who also admire the spartan elegance of the minimalist Danish Modern aesthetic. With new upholstery and cushion foam indiscernible from the original, replete with the original solid brass fasteners all set atop a frame of solid teak in 100% original, vintage condition this set is ideal for collectors and purists alike searching for an authentic Danish-made dining set from the early 1960's. With their timeless lines, superb use of materials and obvious craftsmanship this set if perfect both in home and office settings and is sure to make a BOLD impression in any space they inhabit. The solid Burmese teak frames and legs are in extremely good shape given their age showing only minor surface scratches, nicks and minor discoloration (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). With that said there are no other signs of damage and the two-toned woodgrains are absolutely mesmerizing in natural light. The upholstery, redone in a rich hazel-colored vinyl similar to the original, is in new never-sat-in condition and features new foam for maximum comfort and longevity. The brass fasteners show only minor tarnishing but are all accounted for and 100% original. This exceptional Danish-made dining table is in nearly pristine, 100% original, vintage condition. The mix of solid and veneered Burmese teak shows only minor nicks and light surface scratches (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). There are no deep scratches, stains or other wear present whatsoever and the variegated teak woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light. The table effortlessly expands and contracts via a clever, all-wood slider system. The double butterfly leaf easily flips over and out creating a third more additional dining space in mere seconds. Expanding up to 101" this table can accommodate up to ten guests comfortably. This aesthetically breathtaking dining set is the epitome of comfort, is structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to the new upholstery and foam.
