Rare dining table with six chairs produced by Rorimer Brooks co . Art Deco Streamlined Moderne styling . Cream lacquered table side have incised speed lines . When extended drop leaves are held up by clever mechanism that pulls out from the center of the table .
Six chairs have been refinished seats covered in green mohair .
Table top measures 33.5 x 52.25 wide at 30 tall drop leaf extensions are 26 wide x 25 deep . Chairs are 19 wide 30 tall with 18.5 seat height .
Rorimer Brooks important but little known Design house based in Cleveland Ohio . Maybe the first American firm to design execute and install complete interiors . As well as one of the largest design firms west of New York . Founded by Louis Rorimer becoming Rorimer Brooks after merging with competing Brooks Household Arts company another interior design firm in the early 20th century . .
Rorimer stated he was an artist first, a teacher second, and a businessman third, believing art was an essential ingredient in daily life. With this philosophy, he vigorously promoted and used the cleaner, more utilitarian designs of modern art, as opposed to Victorian styles. From 1918-36, Rorimer taught architural design at Cleveland school of Art .
