Beautiful and rare 17th century French oak trestle / refectory dining table with 19th century restorations. A refectory table is a very elongated table originally for dinner in monasteries in medieval times. In the late Middle Ages the table gradually became a banqueting or partying table in castles and other noble homes The table is 2.40m long. It can be taken apart as you can see in the photos. Measurements: 240 cm long, 60 cm deep and 78.5 cm high.

The top is supported by a trestle base having thick, chunky turned legs conjoined by H-shaped stretchers and ending with bun feet. Constructed with mostly wood peg joinery each end has a 10" inch overhang for diners and ample leg room measuring 23.5 inches from the floor to the apron. The rare large size is made in a monastery or refectory style. Very heavy and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship.
