About the Item
Stunning Brighton style tortoiseshell bamboo dining table. This table is expertly crafted with bamboo open fretwork and is finished with special techniques to create the beautiful tortoiseshell finish. The 78" rectangular dining table seats six to eight people. Two glass tabletop inserts included. All of the fretwork is intact.
Chinese design and bamboo furniture became highly fashionable in the Western world after the completion of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton for future King George IV in 1801. George had a love of fine and decorative arts and a fascination with the Chinese style. He selected Chinese export furniture and objects along with hand-painted Chinese wallpapers for his seaside home.
