Carlo di Carli model 180 dining table Sormani Italy 1963

About the Item

Here's a large and hard-to-find table designed by Carlo de Carli and made by Sormani in 1963. The rosewood top is beautiful and sits on a unique base with solid wooden discs and a brass trim detail. It's called the "Model 180," and although it came in different sizes and styles, this larger version is quite rare besides the fact that it has the best proportions. In excellent fully original condition. Can fit up to 6 dining chairs easily. Rare in the combination of a white base and rosewood top. Carlo De Carli was not only an architect and designer, who made a profound impact on design in the 20th century, but also one of Italy’s leading and most respected professors, who left a fundamental mark of theoretical reflections and ethics of behaviour in an entire generation of architects. He graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milan in 1934 – a university in which he was strongly connected to throughout his career, being Dean of the Faculty of Architecture from 1965 to 1968 and teaching there until 1986. A respected academic and writer, his philosophy focused on the integration of space, material and the human body and gesture, and with this ideology he effectively engaged a dialog between design, universities and the craftsmanship world. He worked with legendary architect and designer Gio Ponti, and his years with Ponti came to shape young Carlo De Carli’s language and approach to design. He later went on to set up a studio on his own, where his design quickly became widely recognized and manufactured by some of the most important and innovative Italian design companies.  Chairs on the pictures not included in this listing but can be purchased here.

Architectural dining table model T30 designed by Edoardo Landi and manufactured by Studio D, Italy 1973. This table is designed by Architect Landi in 1973, and was produced in a very small series by StudioD, together with some chairs, cabinets and tables. This table is made of solid pine wood and is stained in black, it has a glass top in the center which gives the table a nice transparent look. This table is a typical architects design, its clearly visible in the way its constructed and shaped. The table is differenly nice from every angle and is very nice in use as well. The middle part is open and can be used to store items, books, or paper work and it will be only visible from the top and sides. The table can be fully dis assembled for safe shipping. This is one of the most stunning tables I have seen recently and reminds a lot of the later designs by Jose Zanine Caldas as well. Documentation is available but not included in the sale. The table can use up to 8 chairs and the chairs on the picture are not included in this listing. Edoardo Landi studied architecture at the Scuola Superiore di Disegno Industriale, Venice. 1959–1964 founding member of Gruppo N...
