Claudio Salocchi attr. dining table Sormani - Italy, 1960s

About the Item

A dining table attributed to Claudio Salocchi (1934-2012). With its distinctive square metal supports, this generous table is effectively the prototype for a now much-mimicked design. The cream lacquer top has a slight chamfered edge, while each quadrilateral hovers just off the ground on hidden feet. Salocchi studied architecture at the influential Milan Politecnico University before embarking on a design career that lasted some fifty years. He established a reputation for deep research into furniture layouts, yielding innovative compositions without compromise on function. His prescient Metrosistema design, a customisable system of multifunctional cabinets designed primarily for kitchens, was awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979.
