Frate Metal, Glass and Wooden Dining Table by Enzo Mari for Driade 70s

About the Item

FRATE TABLE Table 180x78 cm , belonging to the Frate collection, made with a painted steel profile structure connected by a solid wood beam. Rectangular top in 12 mm thick tempered glass. Suitable for indoor use only, the Frate table finds its place in many furnishing contexts, thanks to the minimal but elegant design that is not invasive. Designed by Enzo Mari in 1973 for Driade. ENZO MARI World-renowned designer, protagonist of numerous artistic seasons and associated with the birth of a new concept of made in Italy, Enzo Mari was above all a great critic and promoter of the debate on design, "design conscience", as Alessandro Mendini defined him on Domus in a 1980 editorial. In fact, throughout his long career, in parallel with the hundreds of objects designed and produced - indeed very often at their origins - an activity of incessant research of a philosophical nature develops which invests the fields of psychology, of anthropology and politics, and which will be expressed in books and projects that have become legendary. 1968 DRIADE is born, an Aesthetic Laboratory always in progress It was born in 1968 on the initiative of a founding group made up of Enrico Astori, a director who determines product and communication policy by directing choices; Antonia Astori, designer and author of the architectural face of the company; Adelaide Acerbi, head of image and communication. Driade immediately established itself for the quality of an original proposal and a highly innovative industrial policy, which confronts three specific problems of the project: the conception of a program, its implementation, its communication. Producing design furniture as individual designer objects according to the logic of collecting, this is how Driade develops as a designer factory.

Tuttle designed furniture for over 50 years, resulting in a body of work that included both manufactured and custom made furniture. Paul Tuttle decided in the second World war after a India employment with the American Air Force to pursue consistently his own way of the self expression.
