French Oak Monastery Table, Farm Table, or Dining Table Circa 1900
About the Item
Found in the region of Normandy, France, this large artisan-made oak monastery table or dining table from the turn of the twentieth century features a 2.5 inch thick top constructed of four planks of wood. Three splines run the entire length of the table to join adjacent planks. The table rests on a sturdy trestle base constructed using mortise and tenon joinery and secured with oak wedges. Floor to bottom of the apron measures 26.5 inches. Measurement between the legs is 49.5 inches. At 85 inches in length, this table seats eight. c. 1900.
