About the Item
Table T21D designed by Pierre Chapo around 1960 and manufactured by Chapo Création in France, 2024.
Solid elmwood finished in naturel oil. Excellent original condition and signed by manufacture stamp. This table can also be ordered in solid oak and/or different dimensions. The table is in stock and will ship in custom plywood crate.
Pierre Chapo was born in a family of craftsmen. After his regular studies, he worked in the workshop of a navy carpenter. He graduated as architect in 1958 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, after having travelled in the United States and in Europe. He opened his own workshop first in Clamart as well a gallery in Paris. Chapo's work was inspired by Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé. Ten years later he settled down in Gordes, where he based the Société Chapo. He then dedicated himself mainly to his work as a carpenter and a cabinetmaker and gave a series of lectures about his great passion, wood.

Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
