Presenting the stunning ‘Aban’ T35B breakfast or small dining table, a masterpiece of design by Pierre Chapo, meticulously crafted in his atelier in France in 1972. This table is a testament to Chapo's genius, born from extensive research and development aimed at perfecting the innovative converging-lines design of its legs. The T35B showcases Chapo's ability to solve complex architectural challenges, particularly in the assembly of wood sections, resulting in a table that is both structurally sound and aesthetically striking.
This specific T35B version features a rectangular top measuring 140 cm in length, requiring a broad span that adds to its impressive presence. The legs are positioned at a steep angle, with the base sections being long and widely spaced, a design that changes in relation to the size of the top. This intricate assembly makes the T35B not just a piece of furniture but an architectural triumph. Crafted from solid elmwood, this very early example is in excellent, fully original condition, showcasing the beautiful grain of the elmwood. Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
