About the Item

Carlo Scarpa, “Valmarana” table, 1971-72, in its original bleached Ash version. "Valmarana with its solid and essential design shows Scarpa’s passion for conceiving designs that add to the architectural importance of any space, with a strong aesthetic that cannot be ignored, no detail is left to chance. Like the deliberate placing of one brick over another to build a wall, the detail of the leg fixing to the table top gives a stark geometric design which embodies Scarpa’s yen for highlighting the shape of simple humble pieces. A system of pieces that fit neatly together upon assembly, as well as the ease of the few linear elements that go to make up this design, and the unusually large proportions of the design, lend this composition its material cohesiveness, testifying to Scarpa’s pure genius when it came to his unusual use of materials to add weight and presence to his designs." Carla Sonego and Francesco dal Co BiBliography Carla Sonetto and Francesco dal Co. The tables of Carlo Scarpa at Venice’s Fondazione Querini Stampalia, pp. 24-29
