About the Item

This table is a authentic reproduction of a Dining Table owned by Ann Getty. Ann Getty House offered certain reproductions to the public via high end showrooms. The Table is fabricated in oak and walnut exactly as the original one. The original sold at Christies last year. The original had ebony inlay, the reproductions were offered with brass and bone inlay. The gilt metal colar is cast from the original, in bronze and gold plated. The original table was commissioned by Lord Newlands in the early 30's. George Bullock, after who's design this table was fashioned, was a sculptor, cabinet maker and entrepeneur. He had a sucessful career as a sculptor and furniture designer in Liverpool and later in London. By 1814 he had established his furniture workshop at 4, Tenterden Street,London. His original designs, drawing on contemporary Greek Revival and Empire Style, many of which were published in Ackermans Repository of Arts. His most famous commision can in 1815 when the British government ordered a suit of furnishings for the exiled Emperor Napoleon on St. Helena.
