18th Century Georgian III Period Mahogany Drop Leaf Table

About the Item

A very fine quality 18th century Georgian mahogany drop-leaf table, having a magnificent, highly figured exotic mahogany top, once the leaves are fully extended the top morphing from rectangular to oval in shape, gracefully standing on four beautifully sculptured solid wood Queen Anne cabriole legs, terminating in pad feet. The wonderful handcrafted antique, circa 1780, featuring superb, exceptional quality construction, including dovetail and pegged mortise tenoned joinery, wooden hinges allow the gateleg to smoothly swing out to support the D shaped leaf. The exquisite warm, rich mahogany is of the finest color, tone and figuring, with beautiful warmth and elegantly aged patina over the whole. Antique character acquired through the centuries adds charm and gives this table a beautiful historic depth. An outstanding example of Georgian furniture, it's large, sturdy, combining simplicity of line with exquisite materials and unparalleled craftsmanship.
