Georgian Drop Leaf Oval Breakfast Table 18th Century English Mahogany

About the Item

English, Circa 1760. Oval Georgian drop leaf breakfast table. With two drop leaf ends which lift up and are supported by hinged solid mahogany gate-legs to create a good sized slightly oval shape table top, which can accommodate 4-6 seated adults. The legs are carved to a simple functional design with square tops tapering down to simple rounded pad feet. The table is mahogany. The top has some slight warping, with a rich and varied patina. Further detail images available on request. Table has been polished, but left in a historic state. We can also offer a full refinishing service if a more uniform colour is desired. Please get in touch if you have any questions. The drop leaf table is a classic English design which gained popularity in the late 16th Century, but continues to be used in furniture design even to this day. The functionality and versatility of such pieces allows one to easily reconfigure it from a side table, semi-circle or full round dining table.
