Antique French Louis XVI Oval Painted End Table
About the Item
Antique French Louis XVI oval painted end table is an exquisite rendering of the style, a revival of classical architecture and decorative excellence that dates back thousands of years to the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations! Created in an oval form, it presents no sharp corners to the room. The top is upholstered in hand-tooled burgundy leather with gold trim, and framed by the top edge carved with a bold variation of egg & dart motif. The table is finished on all four sides, with bowed aprons trimmed in beaded molding, and accented by four vertically oriented acanthus rosettes which appear atop the two-tiers of tapered and fluted legs, also carved on the top tier with upturned acanthus foliage. A full shelf appears midway, trimmed in the same beaded molding as the apron, from which the four tapered and fluted legs tipped with urn-shaped feet emanate. The luxurious painted finish has achieved a lovely patina over the decades, adding marvelous visual appeal. One of the aprons on the long side also happens to be a convenient drawer, accessed with a cast brass pull!
