About the Item

A most charming antique French mirrored commode stand. Born in France in the late 19th / early 20th century, most likely Parisian work, exceptionally executed in refined luxurious King Louis 16th taste. Hand-crafted solid oak wood construction, featuring exotic kingwood and mahogany parquetry inlay with bookmatched veneers on all four sides, having a cross-banded lift-top with canted corners and serpentine shaped front. The hinged lid top lifting open to reveal a rectangular beveled glass mirror plate over nearly five inch deep storage compartment, above two dovetailed drawers, gently curved scalloped apron, elegantly rising on transitional cabriole legs, terminating in gilt bronze sabots. Versatile: As warm and attractive as it is useful, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as chair side table, sofa end table, bedside nightstand, vanity, petite chest of drawers drinks or lamp stand, diminutive hall console, and more. Dimensions: (approx) 28.25" High, 16" Wide, 12" Deep Provenance / Acquisition: Acquired from the highly reputable auction house J. Garrett Auctioneers, Dallas, Texas. Highland Park & Dallas Estate catalog Condition: Good antique condition with nicely aged heavily worn patina. Retaining original antique character and charm, including scattered chips, losses, scratches, and evidence of old repairs and touchups throughout, all wear consistent with age and indicative of use. Loss of key/escutcheon. Original mirror plate with typical dark age spots and fractured lower left corner stabilized with clear tape. Delivered cleaned, waxed, with hand rubbed polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use!
