Dark Purple Palm Textured Concrete Stool, 'Caput Mortuum'
About the Item
Unusual textured concrete side table or stool with dark purple colored, swirling patterns from palm tree bark. It demands to be a resting point on in the shade of an oak tree on a hot dusty trail in a vineyard, but it would be just as happy in a cool and mossy oasis.
Handpacked concrete made with Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) techniques and recycled glass. Felt pads on bottom allow for smooth, scratch-free sliding on any surface. Made in California by mother and son small business with 28 years of experience. Weighs ~50 pounds and one person can lift and move with inset base for easy handholds. Completely one of kind work pushing the boundaries of concrete design.
"Caput Mortuum is rusty velvet drapes in a mansion on mountain. Its cousin is Switchback, but Caput Mortuum is admittedly not a welcoming farmer, but more an old wine found just before becoming vinegar. A faded family crest on the bottle briefly revives their name in you. Why did they die out? You drink the bottle and their name fades again…"

We are Pamela Holmes and Ryder Holmes Wilson, and we have made modern concrete furniture and art by hand for 23 years. We are a humble two-person business located in the dense Redwoods of Cazadero, California. We are constantly evolving our techniques and aesthetic, drawing especially from the land and plants of the nearby area. Each work we make is unique and something we hope will last hundreds of years. Our oeuvre includes hundreds of dining tables and sculptures, and thousands of side and coffee tables.
