Aesthetic Movement Ebonized Griffin Specimen Top Chess Table
About the Item
Outstanding ebonized specimen top chess table. This one of a kind find has all the bells and whistles of the ultimate luxury game table. Featuring the spectacular marble and semi-precious stone inlaid specimen chess board top, four carved feathered paw footed Griffin form legs, intricate fret carved apron, stretcher base with a turned tiered center post. Typically, specimen table tops were a way to commemorate the Grand Tour of Europe and acquiring treasures and shipping them back to the USA. The base has Asian elements as seen in the apron and carving around the top's edge. The griffin carvings are highly detailed and crisp. Circa 1870.
Good overall condition with cosmetic wear and blemishes. Structurally sound and sturdy. Some minor scuffs, bruises and scratches, A few minor chips and hairline to the top (these do not affect the structure or integrity of the piece).
Approximately 38"" diameter x 32" high. The diameter of the specimen top is approximately 25.5"
