A very handsome American Empire games/ card table in fine Cuban/ West Indies mahogany, attributable to Joseph Meeks & Sons of New York City, circa 1830. The solid mahogany top rests on a trestle base composed of two turned and tapering columns with an adjoining stretcher, with bun feet on casters. The hinged top pivots, opening to a square with storage for card & game elements with an apron banded & veneered in a flat-cut, book-matched crotch mahogany, also from the West Indies. A beautiful Danish Empire or Biedermeier chest in fine West Indies mahogany with four drawers of staggered heights. The handsome figuring of the grain is given added movement by the flat cut contiguous veneer moving horizontally across the front of the chest.. The sides also have a flat cut veneer in one piece that was at the intersection of the huge branch or fork in the tree showing the knot and the concentric circles of the grain radiating out from the knot. Chest offers a pedestal top and rests on turned front feet, with diamond-shaped inlaid satinwood key insets. The top and bottom drawers have sculpted fronts.
