Austrian Games Table with Mechanical Cups
About the Item
This game table from Austria has a few cards hidden up its sleeve. First, the drawer is double-sided and accessible from either side of the table. Second, reaching under any corner, one can grab the bottom of a pull-out tray which is spring loaded and attached to the same at the other three corners. Once released, out pops a drink well and a flip-up guinea cup at each corner of the table-quite a remarkable mechanism, and always a crowd pleaser!
Surrounding the tan leather playing surface is a generous wood border with delicate boxwood string inlays; these inlays are continued around the apron and on the drawer fronts, which in turn have brass knobs with a circular backplate. Each knee on the shaped cabriole leg features exceptional carving of an acanthus leaf and cartouche.
