About the Item

This fine and unusual games table is of rare form, circa 1900 and 1910, is made of mahogany and deal secondaries. The brass fittings have all been chrome-plated, a feature usually reserved for boating fixtures. The table locks closed and once opened can lock very snuggly into the open position. Internally set with two ashtrays and two small compartments with hinged lids. The table also features two drawers that slide out for cards as well as a central larger drawer for chips. Retaining its original baize which shows much use and wear we have decided to leave it as a testament to its life and enjoyment. The wooden structure and stability of the table is in excellent condition with only one minor crack as seen in photo 12. This is a shrinkage crack and does not in any way interfere with its function. The table's surface finish is all original and has been freshly waxed and polished. The British empire at this time just before the 1st world war maintained a large standing army stationed throughout its far-flung world empire and officers or high rank considered it impossible to travel without the necessary furniture and equipment required for daily life as if they still lived in home-like surroundings. Chests, desks, beds with canopies, dining tables, chairs, and even sofas and bookcases were made to close, contain goods, travel and withstand the elements and wear of camp life. Through extensive research, we have found only one other such table and that table did not have chrome-plated hardware nor the lidded compartments nor the large single drawer attached to the outside of the table. The design is identical in both concerning locking and leg configuration as well as shape and wood choice but this table has many additional features setting it apart. Condition disclosure: While we do our best to carefully inspect and give a full report on the condition of any item we sell, pointing out any repairs or alterations that may have been done to the best of our knowledge, as is the case with any antique and vintage item, there is a possibility that at some point in the life of the piece that there may have been damaged which has been professionally repaired and as such a repair undetectable, it is therefore impossible for us to disclose... we recommend that you also read and agree to the 1st dibs user agreement, particularly sections 9, 13, 15, 18, 19 and 27.

Period Victorian Pontypool Tole Tray on Later Stand
Located in Hudson, NY
This lovely old tray made circa 1860 is inlaid with mother of pearl and tole decorated with flowers set into a lustrous lacquer surface applied to the tinware tray. The flowers are painted in a lively and realistic manner and the tray is further decorated with a meandering border of flowers and vines in gilding and colors along the edge of the dished section of the tray and then again on the broad flat area of the tray's edge. The stand in a Regency form is also decorated in similar colors and with gold. The tray has a label from the 1840s affixed to the reverse that says it was restored and most likely at that time the stand was fashioned and painted to accompany the tray. The stand folds and can be easily moved to make it a perfect movable coffee table...
