LINKE, the reverse of the mounts variously numbered period: late 19th/early 20th century  Dimensions: Closed: 29 ¼ in. (74.5 cm.) high, 33 1/8 in. (84 cm.) wide, 16 ¾ in. (42.5 cm.) deep Open: 33 in. (84 cm.) deep The opening to a baize-line surface top is inlaid with e. The surface of the top contains a further baize-lined compartment. The cabriole legs are with foliate sabots. Linke was undoubtedly the most important Parisian ébéniste of his time. By the time of the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, Linke‘s worldwide reputation as a master of high individualism and inventiveness was already established and unmatched by his contemporaries. His success at the 1900 exhibition afforded Linke a high degree of financial stability and allowed him to pursue new markets by exhibiting at subsequent international fairs. His oeuvre included copies and adaptations of the distinct styles of 18th century important and royal French furniture. In 1904, he was made Officier de L’instruction Publique, and in 1905 he was called to be a member of the Jury of the Liège exhibition. Linké had the highest distinction of France, the Croix de la Légion d’Honneur in 1906.
