About the Item
A fine Federal period American Classical maple morphing table from the early 19th century.
Exquisitely hand-crafted in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, circa 1830, exceptionally executed, the wooden hinged gate leg flip-top table morphs between a demilune console and double the size card game table.
Featuring a solid maple joined plank top with twisted and tapered hand turned legs and a broad curly maple apron. There is little decoration beyond the burl inlaid cartouches at the top of each leg, rich grain patterns and warm light wood tones. A truly superb example of nineteenth century American furniture.
