Stunning Gueridon Table, hand carved Dolphin, second Empire, ~1900, Italy

About the Item

Stunning rare side table, so called Gueridon, from the second Empire, made around 1900 in Italy. This elaborate structure of the table is composed of a round base with small extensions as a detail, two columns between which a dolphin winds and a table top. It looks as if the dolphin is carrying the top. Not only the scaly body is wonderfully designed, but also the dorsal fin. The Gueridon is free-standing, as it is designed from all sides. Not only the design but also the materials make this object a furniture of the upper class. The substructure is made of spruce, which was veneered with mahogany, the columns are made of solid wood mahogany. The dolphin is hand-carved and gold plated on a bolus of striking metal. Measurements approx.: height 34,25 in - 87cm, diameter 22,05 in - 56 cm A historical object in Empire style that will be a real statement piece in your premises. The table comes in perfectly restored condition.
