Eugène Gaillard "Clover" Nesting Tables

$45,000

About

Dynamism meets beauty in this refined composition in padauk and Madagascar rosewood by Eugène Gaillard. The aptly-titled "Clover" table resembles an abstracted version of the eponymous plant when viewed from above, with four distinct 'leaves' delineated with subtle indentations at each of the table's corners and the attractive patterning in the wood. Underneath the primary structure four independent nestled tables, each in the shape of a rounded triangle, rest neatly below the central table top, ready to be pulled outward to create a dynamically tiered, broader surface area. Artist: Eugène Gaillard Country: France Circa: 1913 Dimensions: 27.5" height, 27.5" width, 27.5" depth Materials: Padauk and Madagascar rosewood Provenance: Private collection, France Literature: Related table pictured in The Paris Salons 1895-1914, Volume III: Furniture, by Alastair Duncan, Woodbridge, 1996, p. 217 Exhibition History: Similar model included in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris collections, under the number INV 19136, and has been exhibited during the Salon de la Société nationale Beaux-Arts in 1913.
